Yes, I am posting two things in one day, but it's an emergency. It came to my attention while writing my last post that today is J.R.R. Tolkien's birthday.
You heard me right. On this day in 1892, John Ronald Reuel Tolkien was born in Bloemfontien, South Africa. And it was a life that changed the world.
Most of you reading this probably live in the northern hemisphere and you are freezing your buns off right now. But in South Africa it is the middle of summer. He moved to England when he was four, so I wonder if it was much of an adjustment changing hemispheres?
Now go do something to treat yourself in honor of Tolkien's birthday, and remember that you have just as much potential as he did. It is rather late in the day, I know, but at 9 p.m. CNET suggests drinking a toast to "The Professor." If it's after 9 p.m. where you are, have one anyway. I have some wassail in the fridge leftover from New Year's, so that will be put to good use.
See you in the Shire!
